Getting a TB module created advise needed

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of moving my site over from PS 1.6 to TB but I do require a module be created for a feature that isn't implemented that i need. I am not a coder so will be getting a developer to create the module for me but I want to know what the plans are for future TB versions when it comes to modules? Will a module made for TB version 1 be compatible with future versions of TB? I don't want to end up in the situation like with Prestashop where you move to a new version of the software and old modules don't work especially if I have to pay someone to write modules for me.

You should be fine, we are not planning on breaking compatibility anytime in the near future.

Compatibility is one of our main focuses. We are always looking at ways to add new features and improve the core without breaking modules and compatibility.

Compatibility can be a big issue with open source projects, Firefox decided to change their add on modules format in the latest version and it caused a lot of modules to become incompatible with no new version available

Right, it is. At some point we are going to have to break it, but not in the near future.

At least for a year. We have not solidified our road map yet, but we are going to keep the 1.0.x compatible version active for at least 18 months.

The module is going to integrate with an API offered by the drop shipper i use, so that it can automatically keep track of stock levels and pass on customers details when a new order is made.

What drop shipper if I may ask? We are going to have an inventory source integration soon, id your drop shipper on their list?

From inventory source, its a company that facilitates drop shipping.

I had a meeting with them last week, they said they would add thirty bees to their supported platforms. They have more of an integration than a module.

@lesley Ahhhh, that's a bit different. So it's not gonna be a native opensource module. (that could be forked for my purposes)

An integration from their end would be cool too.

Sadly not, but at least its an integration with a major data company.

Inventoryshource.com is the company and they do an meta integration with other dropship suppliers.

So you don't have to do a custom integration with each supplier to handle the quirks of their inventory feeds. Just use their integration and sign up with the dropshipper that they support and they handle the rest.
