actually decided to do this soon after my original post
Yep. Based on the old adage you get what you pay for... I would say either a dev or a different product might be best. Nothing will ever be perfect. Mostly because us Humans created it.
Hope you get there.

Well you might ask your hosting company to weigh in. Most hosting services have email included. A Lot of them does not support 3rd party email either.
I found this to

Try SSL
STARTTLS is a way to take an existing insecure connection and upgrade it to a secure connection using SSL/TLS. Note that despite having TLS in the name, STARTTLS doesn't mean you have to use TLS, you can use SSL.

I wouldn't use PHP sending. Alot of places block that as spam.
Use the actually server settings part.
then put in email server setting here.
This link might help for the settings... Not my site.

enough to say that it is very complex
Sounds like it. I was not reading into the OP question. I was just answering what was written
I agree. I don't think the PS/TB Shipping system is complex enough. Needs more features. However its Open source so you could hire a DEV to do whatever you want and make it the best for you.

I think you could update the all fairly easy with prestatools. You would have to test it and see how it works in your Test System.

Agreed.

Product 2 weighs 100 g and costs £100 - carrier 1 is no good becuase it does not have tracking carrier 1 should be disabled and only carrier 2 is available
ok so in product 2 under shiping don't you just only show carrier 2.
The OP doesn't speak of tracking or good or bad carriers...

Shipping Type 1: Max 2kg, Max Cart Value $50
Shipping Type 2: Max 2kg, Max Cart Value $100
Shipping Type 3: Max 30kg, No Upper Value Limit (or an unrealistically high limit, say $20k)
Ok when you say shipping type You mean Carrier?
Are you using Price or weight? I would think you are wanting to use price.
Billing
According to total price.According to total weight.1. Do you mean if you have 1 kg of items you want all carries shown?
2 if you have 3 Kgs you only want carrier 3 shown?
I think if I understand you this can be achieved in the Maximum package weight section on screen 3.
thanks

Anyone have this module up and going in TB
-
So just wondering.
Could you put a switch in settings1.php it to remove anything related to VAT. I know its widely used in the EU. It's just a distraction for others. I was able to take it out of settings1.php for the Edit function.
Also could you put the same $default_product_fields function in the product-sort.php . I think that would help alot.
So far I love this. works great for my small shop

Thanks
Works great.

DataKick
Thanks for this. I may look in to this. I for one agree the Create account/address info should be last. I dont like that the standard theme asks me to create an account at the beginning.

Sorry all:
I wasn't very clear I suppose. I had installed the module. It does load and seems to work. I think I expected more from the module. It's a easypost shipping module. Its this one:https://addons.prestashop.com/en/preparation-shipping/21273-easy-post-pro-dhl-gls-dpd-colissimo-royalmail-etc.html
It's supposed to or I thought it would Calculate shipping based on weight and give the best options to the Client. It however does not on the Client front end. Since it only knows weight and not shipping box size. On the Admin backend it works great since we know the shipping box size and weight. So I may just have to use it that way.
If someone ever creates a EasyPost module for TBs https://www.easypost.com/docs/api I would love to test it. I would also like to have a for sure fully compatible shipping module for TBs.
If you all have any advise as well. please remit. As I am new.

I have a module coded for ps 1.6. Is it possible for someone to review the code and verify it would work. I am not a coder. I did install it. It seems to load but not sure it is functioning completely. The module is not encoded.
If yes I suppose PM me. if no just let me know you all won't do that type of thing.

Thanks Traumflug. I have been lurking a bit. I like all the work you all have put in on the Fork. I plan to donate once I fully understand if I can use the software.
I have watched Nemo's Videos and they help alot. I am starting to assume shipping is more of a Guess than Accurate pricing. Seem like based on weight we could get really close if the shipping system was coded to take all of the rules in place or have more options to allow input of said rules. Which I assume would be a huge undertaking.

All:
I have read all of the documentation I could find here and 1.6 PS. Shipping setup seems to be pretty confusing to me. I am new to TB and PS for that matter. I have even watched videos. None of it seems to make sense. Here goes..
2 choices shipping based on price or weight. Not sure why you would use Price (I assume this just guessing). Carriers use weight and size.
So I chose weight. Then on the products I put in the weight of the item.
Then in carriers if you add USPS it asks for Ranges and cost. Which is a bit strange. Since the cost is different for type of service and weight. How does the system know if the price is for First class vs Parcel?
I do note there are or were some modules to help with some of this. I found a EasyPost module https://addons.prestashop.com/en/preparation-shipping/21273-easy-post-pro-dhl-gls-dpd-colissimo-royalmail-etc.html over in PS supposed to work with most carriers. Doesn't seem to work to well or I don't know what I am doing.
I think I just need a overview of what I have to do to make shipping calculate correctly in general.
Also advice on a module that works with USPS, UPS, and FEDEX with buying/ printing/labels would be great. I saw the ones from Presto Chango. I can really tell what it does or how it works.
I love the fork BTW.
