Can we use PNG in customer reassurance module instead of JPG?

I enabled the customer reassurance module but although the icons are round they are JPG and therefore aren't transparent and have a square box around them. I tried uploading new PNG icons but the module seems to convert them to JPG images and any transparency of the images are lost. Is there a way to alter the module not to convert from PNG to JPG images?

You have to set to use png's in the Preferences -> images section of your back office.
