Change Reference Code To SKU

I read that because this a fork that we can't create child themes. So how do we make changes to files without updates to BT affecting them? For Example I need to change Reference Code and UPC barcode to SKU and Mfg Part Number.

If you go to Localizations -> Translations, you can change the word Reference to SKU in there.

You can change the text in the templates but, once you need to update thirtybees, select the option to not update the theme.

Hey, but after changing translation, reference still will be the same not like SKU, and I do not know why. How to revert to show SKU number instead of reference, tried to change in product.tpl, but it did not update in website. Can you advise?
