CDATA - Still needed?

Hello,

Noticed that there are large chuncks text generated at the bottom of my page with CDATA. From what I understand this is no longer needed, and some thirtybees pages dont have it. So do we need it? And if not how can I prevent it from being included?

If you don't care about position in search engines sure you do away with the not needed stuff. 
Once you loose a position it's a little harder to get it back.

At the bottom of page, JavaScript scripts are loaded, preceded by comment: /* <![CDATA[ */

So you are saying that it does matter for SEO?

many people believe the that is not longer needed. 
Its a mistake to fall into that. There are other search engines not only Google.
