My Thirty Bees Store: Feedback, Opinions and Advice

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the feedback you've already given me.

I built this online store for a friend as a personal project and without any real compensation, apart from a few drinks and dinners at the estate. I'm not a professional ecommerce developer, so I'm always interested in hearing honest opinions and suggestions for improvement.

The store is:

https://tenutalagigliola.it

I would appreciate any feedback regarding:

  • Design and user experience
  • Navigation and site structure
  • Product pages
  • Checkout process
  • Performance and speed
  • Mobile usability
  • SEO and overall presentation

Any comments, suggestions, or constructive criticism are welcome.

Thank you for your time!

Best regards,
Alberto

Since you asked about performance and SEO specifically, I would start with the boring basics before any design tweaks. Run the homepage and one product page through PageSpeed Insights on mobile, because the image weight on shops like this is usually the biggest cost. Convert the product photos to WebP, set real width and height on them, and lazy load everything below the fold. For SEO, make sure every product page has its own title and meta description written for a human, not just the product name repeated. Short descriptive text on category pages also helps a lot more than people expect. Also check that your canonical tags and sitemap only list pages you actually want indexed.

Hi Alberto,

Few things that pop up with short visit:

1. The site is slooooooow. Consider tweaking your store to the following settings, which are close to optimal. Consider migrating it to a litespeed server and use Litespeed cache plugin 1.5.2 with it.
2. The first slider on the home page does not open (12345). The other images are with messed-up proportions or very low quality. The index page is the face of this operation and the slider is the most important part - use high quality, if possible personalized slides. In general sliders are "very 2010" but if you don't want to invest in homepage module at least optimize what you have.
3. The contact us button overlaps the cookie button (in general this cookie banner is no longer sufficient in EU, consider using somethign that actually does what it is supposed to (https://github.com/tagconcierge/tc-prestashop-gtm-consent-mode-banner-free is a nice option but the free version only supports one language, neverthless you can use LLMs). In general, remove this violet 'thing', if they want to contact you they see the footer with phone/whatsapp and contact us page.

4. There is not enough business operator information in TnC page - I won't buy food from website that does not show their details in full. If they have some eco-food/small producer, etc certification - put this in separate CMS page so visitors can educate themselves. Also there is not enough shipping information in Delivery page - you need to list all your domestic and international shipping options, delivery times and costs to build up trust with the customer. Use the courier name to gain trust. "We deliver to Slovenia." sounds far worse than "We use DHL XYZ Courier Service to deliver to Slovenia. Shipping time: 3 days. Cost: 15 Euro"
5. They have website for the hotel section of the business - ask them if they want to have the shop as a addition and try to make the appearance more closely tie in with the hotel website (colors, fonts, logos, etc).
6. The product photos could be the biggest seller in such small home made operation - ask the owner to invest in a photo shoot of the products on some nice place in the villa, you need b-roll images to set the ambiance but high quality stock products of each bottle.
7. Fix the whatsapp button with some icon that more closely represent the theme you use.
8. Reviews - use datakicks Revws module: https://github.com/getdatakick/revws and when you like it buy the full one.
9. Edit your product.tpl and remove/comment out the print functionality. Nobody uses it and it takes valuable space on the product page.
10. Configure your countries. I doubt you deliver to whole of Africa. Customers need the actually served countries there.
11. Explain to the owner-operator that 3 sales of 15 Euro bottle of Oil is far better than no sales of anything because of the minimum 50 Euro order cap. This is not serious. If they don't have time in their daily schedule to fulfill an order for 10 minutes, this operation is not for them and it's better to stick to the hotel part of the endevour.
12. On location payment method is not translated in EN.
13. https://tenutalagigliola.it/en/passiti-grappe/lo-stoiato - Don't include images on FB in your descriptions. Try to keep your visitor on the shop. If you like this image so much put it at the end of the long description as a banner.
14. Use h2 or h3 in the long descriptions for the headings. Not simply ALL CAPS. This gives context to the search engines.
15. Enable your Layered navigation filter. Yes, you have 1-3 products per category, but in the future this might increase slightly and gives the left column a reason 'to live', otherwise it's empty. Here you can play with attributes and features and include them in the layered navigation. Imagine different ears of wine/oil. Or a selection where the customer filters different percentages of grape variety in the filter. Also you list different sizes of bottles in oil and wine - configure this as features of each product and add such a filter.
16. Alchimia is a funny name for a magnum of wine. I would not purchase. Meme material. 🙂

In general, nice work, I love that you used thirty bees for this project. Just try to keep it updated to the latest versions and they could end up with nice little shop that can showcase their products.
