When someone orders some software from me he immediately receives three emails in his mailbox: Thank you for your order, Your payment has been received and Here is the download.

Given how aggressive Google (Gmail) nowadays is regarding spam wouldn't it be better to compact that into one email?

Yes of course,  and you can do this easily for your own,  just change the confirmation message as you like and switch off not used messages  :)   A good editor the change the email html's  is  https://html5-editor.net/
