products no longer shown in categories

Recently, my products are no longer displayed in the categories. I have the community-default theme.
When I open a category, I see the products for a very short moment and then it doesn't show me any more, see screenshot.
I have tried different browsers and also two different computers

installing the module is not enough, you will need to install and run elastic search on your server.

I dont have any experience with elastic search module, but if I remember correctly this module was never really fully production ready.

I don't use elasticsearch module in production, but I worked on it lately -- fixing some bugs, adding support for newer ES server, etc. It seemed to be working quite nicely, at least in my limited localhost installation.
