CSV Help

I am having some difficulty in getting a CSV file to upload my products.. I have a few questions if anyone can help.. I used to use these on Zencart so am a little familiar with it and know they can be difficult to use I have downloaded the product sample and have a had a look . I've a few questions about it 1.After Categories it has y and z what is with the numbers in y I thought it would be a sub category 2. Discount amount is a date , I thought it would be an amount. 3. Do all column have to be full or can you delete the columns you don't need as there are a few not needed Am converting a Zencart csv over to here Am using the latest TB Not sure what else is needed

1. catgeories - y,x,z -> numbers (id) from category, if you need moore than one category -> first id is headcategory
2. discount - price or percent colum then date for the discount
3. you need you do not need all columns - delete it
