Featured Products - wrong product number

The Featured Products block shows the wrong number of products on the home page. I only have 2 products in the Home category, and there are more on the first page, regardless of what I set in the module settings.

Your home category have probably enabled option "Display products from subcategories"

That seems logical. But how can I turn this off for the HOME category?

Yes, this slightly hidden feature is the solution to my problems. 
For the other categories, it is clear what needs to be done, and for the home category, 
a little more ingenuity is needed. Thanks for the help.
