Revws module - possibly missing product structured data

This is google being stupid, that's all.

This warning is displayed when product doesn't have any reviews yet.

We obviously can't write any metadata about review (author, content, rating) because none is written yet.

We also can't write any metadata about aggregateRating - because what is the average of nothing? Allowed value for this field is in range of 1 to 5.

  • If we used 0, then google would complain that this not a valid value
  • we could put some value from the allowed range, but which?
    • 1 -- that's not good, because then the page would be displayed with 1 star in search
    • 5 -- that's better, but we would be lying -- nobody gave us 5 stars yet. And google could, and would penalize your site for that.

The only solution here, in my opinion, is omit the information completely.

Hi datakick, I have your paid version of the Revws - Reviews v2.3.1 module.

I have created a Product Category called "Featured Products" (Hidden) and associated products in this category that only have review ratings.

I then setup the "Block Featured Products" module to use this product category from which to pick products to be displayed on the Homepage.

Now, those products show up on the homepage under "Our featured products" block, however I still have the problem with aggregateRating (invalid items detected) even when the products displayed have rating.

What am I missing???

Here is my website: https://www.miraxsupplements.ca

Review metadata are not emitted for product miniatures / listing. They are emitted only on product page, for primary product.

I suggest you to modify your theme, and remove all metadata from product miniatures. Having them there does not help your site.

... how do I do that ...remove all metadata from product miniatures? Can I do this from the Backoffice or I have to do it elsewhere?

edit product-list-item.tpl, and remove all itemtype, itemprop and itemscope attributes.

Ok, so there isn't much advantages in using the "Block Featured Products" module with reviews then, if it is causing problems with Google Search's rich results?

You should not focus on google, but on your customers experience.

Block features is, in my opinion, a nice way to showcase your best selling products to new visitors. But it's up to you.

Note that having metadata about products in list miniatures is not a good idea. This template is used on a lot of places. For example, if you have 'Related Products' module enabled, it will be displayed on product page. If this template contains product metadata, it can confuse search engines. When they crawl your product page, it will see metadata about 7 products (one primary, and 6 related products). How will google know which one is the primary one? What review average ratings should it display in search results? .... these additional metadata just produce noise, and bring no benefit.

My recommendation is to remove the metadata from this template anyway.

Ok, can your confirm this, when your module "Revws - Reviews v2.3.1 - by DataKick" is installed and configured to have the "Display store reviews" in Main Block on the Home page, then the links for the "Block Featured Products v2.2.1 - by thirty bees" will not work on mobiles. As soon as I chose to display store reviews in Tab, then the links for the products listed under "Block Featured Products" will work on mobiles.

Thanks for your help...

The problem is that two templates, from different modules, use different bootstrap class. Bootstrap does not like this

You need to choose which class you want (col-xs-12 or col-sm-12) and then edit and change one of the template

Ok, we have two modules, one is Block Featured Products v2.2.1 - by thirty bees and the other is Revws - Reviews v2.3.1 - by DataKick.

When those two modules are enabled together, it create this problem. I'm just a "user" of thirtybees and not a "coder", having to modify core files shouldn't be done by users as it will get overridden on every updates.

By the way, you are very helpful and I like the many modules you've created.

Can this be fixed by an update to your Revws module?

As this is not a bug, I will not be releasing a new version to fix it. It is common that module template sometimes needs to be adjusted in order to work properly with your theme (or in this case with other module).

You can simply edit file /modules/revws/views/templates/hook/home.tpl and change col-sm-12 to col-xs-12.

Or, you could modify the template of the other module in a similar way.

That was easy, thanks for providing a straight forward instruction to the fix.

(Not sure why it was only affecting mobile however, but it's solved now, sooooo, cool).

Cheers.
