Category cover images and thumbnails don't update

For a few images on my site for the main categories the image taken by TB was the tiny thumbnail.

I've deleted them and uploaded fresh images again and cleared the cache in TB and in FF and Chrome but the images are not updated.

The replaced category images don't update on the site, only in admin.

Strange. It has always been a PS problem but I thought is was solved because I have no problems with it

Should I delete the subcategory and redo it?

No. Now the weird image system make trouble. If it was easy to find the old just delete it but not with PS

For me, I know exactly where my images are, so I can do it over but not if it won't fix it.

I doubt that your shop images are there, I dont even have the image folder. I have img with a lot of subs where the images are

@Havouza if you have trouble finding your images just click with right button on image and choose properties and you will see there the right path. If you have troubles find it tell me, I will try to give more details.

No, I am aware where I can find info about them but still, it is a crazy system. I can't find one good reason for it.

Actually in categories is not that bad. c/103-category_default/bracelets.jpg

c = categories images folder 103 = category ID category_default = image preference type

In product is a bit more complicated because the image is being saved under the image ID and not the product ID. so product image ID 3652 will be saved in: p/3/6/5/2/3652.jpg (p = product images folder)

All our images come named as the product reference number. If there is many they have an added underscore and a number. Easy to find

One can't put millions of files into a single folder, there's a maximum of 65000 or something. Looking up such huge folders is also slow. Two good reasons to create some subfolder hierarchy.

@Traumflug you are right. One thing that PS is doing wrong, is not keeping the original file as well in the same folder (p/2/3/4). But instead is creates a cloned version of the file with product image id as filename. It should be in addition.

@Traumflug Of course, but why not make it simple and understandable? Like

IMG>Category>Subcat>Products. And keep image names. This way you get an understandable structure and easy to find pictures. We have 3 shops with I estimate a total of 100000 pictures. We would not come close to any limits.

Btw PS cant be blamed for being fast, despite the wierd structure

Anyhow, I hope they clean up this soup. There can't be any reason for p/3/6/5/2/3652.jpg.

I totally agree. It's ridiculous. I'm hoping imageMagick will fix this.

@alwayspaws The module gives sharper looking images with correct colors. This is especially noticeable if you have high-resolution professional photograper images as your source.
