PS addon demosite

I am sure here is some pS module developers on the forum. I am curious, how does the addon demo site work?

I dont think so. If you want to buy a ps module, most of them you can see live on a demosite. I am just curious how it work. They all look the same

Well as far as I know, they just install a new ps for this demo purpose...

Yup, I think all those demo sites are just a standard PS install with the module installed, and usually some backoffice features removed or disabled so guests can't mess things up too much.

The dev usually keeps a backup of the demo store and periodically restores it so that things don't get too far out of hand with demo data / tests entered by various potential customers.

There's a demo mode, accessible on the dashboard page in the upper right corner. AFAIK this disables stuff like completing a purchase.

The demo button only show some fake statistics, nothing else as I understand it

No, not sure. I mostly know this from seeing _PS_MODE_DEMO_ in many code files.

Probably thats something different... In guess this is "catalog-modus", which can be activated under settings -> products...

It is interesting that no one seems to ´know how it works. I was sure the demo site is something PS provide and if you look at the link to a module demo it is obvious it is like that

You are wrong. They are using iframes... The demo site is hosted here: https://prestafox.com/prestashop/landing-page/pts-viva/

So you mean that every developer has a shop site that looks exactly the same. Then it must be a special version that PS provide.

Another perhaps more interesting question. Modules that I buy I must keep track of updates myself?

If they all use the included default PS theme then they're all going to look the same. I would expect everyone to use the default theme, why do anything else?

Edit: Could very well be a PS store requirement to use the default theme for demo stores. Not sure, never built & sold a theme.

But still it is some version where you can shut off most things. Nothing that can be done on a normal shop or?

I would imagine that "shutting off most things" just means creating a "demo account" user with most permissions unchecked.

I really don't why you care so much about this ps thing!? But maybe what you mean, is the settings "Permission" in the backoffice. There you can disable all the backoffice features.
