  1. So we all know that many of us during development sometimes land up making changes to TB Core files (gasp!). This is usually out of necessity, to fix bugs encountered or add basic stuff that should be there or that was omitted by the original Prestashop devs for whatever reason. Or sometimes it's just plain naivety 😉

In an ideal world one should not be modifying Core files, for obvious reasons.

However sometimes it is a valid change...

So let us know what you've changed and why. Maybe if it's valid we can update Core, thereby limiting the need for you to add something or fix something that should already be there or should have been fixed already.

And no, we won't judge or persecute 😉

    Let us know below

Apart from what Musicmaster said, he wrote the mainly-free Prestools program.
A built-in-by-default module to install Prestools would make this software easier to learn, I think, for new shopkeepers. Most of us find it in the end but it would be easier to have it there at the start.

Good idea. And thanks to @musicmaster  of course for Prestools and for your contributions and input throughout the years. Although imo, it's more for advanced users rather than casual or new shopkeepers.

However, if it is decided to do this, then it will have to be modulised, styled, tidied up and afterwards maintained, and obviously permission from musicmaster. And you know, with limited resources...

    But good idea nonetheless, imo

  3. We had a lot of pressure to wrap up and make an announcement before the end of the year. If we did not make the announcement in time many of you would've left in droves.

A lack of a roadmap does not mean that there aren't any plans to address the issues voiced in the community and that there would not be a roadmap shortly. It is merely a case of time constraints.

Thirty Bees is alive again, after a tumultuous and uncertain period. Purchased by someone who genuinely cares about the project and the community. For us all it should be a sigh of relief. Leaving now is jumping the gun, imo. Give us a chance and time to settle in and prepare everything for the future and for your involvement.

@wakabayashi Your contributions and your role as a moderator has been invaluable and is appreciated. Your voice is being heard. Your continued support and involvement will make a difference. Stepping away now does not help. Please stay and continue being involved - your contribution will help us all make TB 'great again'. We need all hands on deck if we're going to make this new endeavour succeed.

Thanks for your update! Let's say no deal will be achieved (which is very likely). What happens then? Will we see something in the beginning of 2021? Or will we have to wait another few months till the fork is leading anywhere?

Probably sometime early next year. It's my understanding that some progress has already been made regarding the fork, in case of a no deal scenario. Obviously it will still need to be completed, but then we can fully commit to it and get it done asap.

  5. Hi all

We understand the frustration and uncertainty about the future of TB that is being felt here due to no news and constant delays.

The delays are caused by having to resolve the issue with the partner and this is holding up the contract being finalised.

If it was up to us it would have been sorted out long ago...

However, we've decided that we and you cannot wait forever. We are committed to making Thirtybees succeed and evolve for the future. We have a great team and  one of the Core developers, @datakick on board. And with you support, we know we can succeed.

Because of this, we've decided that if the contract is not signed by end December we will fork. Either way, Thirtybees will succeed and continue in the future in one form or another. You will not be left hanging. We have you covered and backed by the Core developer on our team, you can be rest assured that we will deliver, whatever happens.

Your and our stores will continue to be supported and TB will evolve for the future.

We know it's a hard ask and we're impatient too. But if we can ask for just a little more patience please...

Yes, I'm part of the group that would like to take over thirtybees. Currently we are trying to buy the rights -- not the thirty dev llc company, as we are not US based. Negotiations took a long time now. Every time we get close to the deal something else pop up.

Important thing is that we are committed to this. Although we prefer continuation of thirtybees for various reasons, we are prepared to fork and proceed under the new brand if the deal is not reached soon.

Well, I guess the cat's out the bag now 😉

@Messenger Bee is there any date you estimate for this transaction to end? Will it be month, 6 months or few years?
I think it should be possible to determine when we might expect anything to move?

    Hi

Apologies for the delay in response.
As mentioned before, the contract is currently with our attorney for analysis and the negotiations continue based on recommendations from the attorney. This is perfectly normal and routine. Also difficult to predict exact times as it's a bit of a process.
We continue to ask for patience and will of course let you guys know when we know.

In the meantime, Thirty Bees is not dead. There is activity in Github and bugs continue to be fixed. Also, if you do run into problems, you can submit a bug in Github and you can always make a post in the forum.

For me this "many things" is Advanced Stock Management, FIFO, handling of combinations. These elements are present in TB, but I'm unable to understand how they work or maybe they're not working after all. Also there is need for Proforma Invoice and "offer"

@Community: Maybe you guys can shed some light here for @led24ee ?

There is more than year with no updates. Basically TB is dead already. But since TB is far more stable than PS then it is still somehow alive. If there is nothing new in month or two , then also these who at the moment are using it, will be looking for something else.

There are many of us that feel the same way and are worried about TB's survival. This is why we decided to try and do something about it.
And this is also why we are trying our best to get the sale finalised as soon as possible.

There are many things that are not working and i doubt that they will ever work.

If you don't mind, please detail the "many things that are not working" here. We will ensure that they get added to the "to be fixed" list and that they get resolved accordingly.
You can also create forum posts of the issues, and the community may be able to provide solutions in the interim. The issues may also have to be logged as actual bugs in Github.

edit: this unrelated discussion what moved to separate thread:

You have full access to the Github repository and the thirtybees.com server already. Writing code doesn't need a contract, you could do this right now.

Actually, it's more complicated than that. We can only employ someone once the sale has been finalised.

    29 minutes ago, Traumflug said:

Which obviously means you plan to keep future additions closed source.

This is a completely incorrect assumption. We do not have any plans to close future additions or features behind pay walls. What keeps TB great and free will continue. So think TB as it is now with new additions, improvements, all for free. We are part of the community after all and have no dark side plans. We want what the community wants. Just want to see TB continue, and to improve, survive and thrive.

We will share all our plans and road maps with you guys when we take over. Expect transparency and happiness 😁

OK, but what will it change then when ownership is transfered .. is TB gonna come back as a golden egg chicken (cash machine) or will it become a real community open source software place ?

    Just to know ^^

    Hi Zen

We will inject new life and new energy into TB. Basically revitalising a project that has essentially become stagnant. It's not being taken over by some corporate bad guys. We are members of the community, like you. Our focus and goal is not money and profit, but for TB to survive and thrive. Open source and free. Also, we won't be taking what was free once and moving it behind a pay wall. And we don't have any plans for a major architectural change. So won't be going the PS 1.7 route.

In short: community focused and community involvement, open source, free. Continuation and improvement of Thirty Bees.

More detail to follow in the near future.

It's now another month. And I am quite lazy of such topics:

@lesley @Messenger Bee Did the negotiations fail?

@lesley Can you please remove me as a moderator?

    Hi @wakabayashi

No the negotiations did not fail. We're currently waiting for another update to the contract and this should be the final version. Once our attorney has checked it, we will proceed with the sale.

As is normal with these things, it could still take a little while longer to wrap things up and create the new company. But from a negotiations standpoint, everything is essentially sorted.

We appreciate your concern, but continue to ask for patience. Everything is on track and there's no need to worry or jump ship.

Just for the record and for whoever is buying Thirty Bees, there are many users like my company that value Thirty Bees and are waiting patiently for the transfer of ownership to take place and for the resumption of development. So, don't be put off by the relative quietness or inactivity in the forum.

Thanks for the great message  @avilink

We're grateful for your and the community's support. We're excited about the future of Thirty Bees and are eager to pick up the reigns of this great platform and move it forward together with you and the community.

We'd just like to ask for continued patience and understanding as we finalise the purchase of TB and setting up the new company.

We will let you guys know when we have some new progress to report.

  14. Hi all,

Although progress has been made, it will still take some time to iron out a few things and to finalise the purchase and setup of the new company.
We will let you guys know when we have some progress to report. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding in this regard.

Regarding bugs, please make a forum post detailing the issues and we & the community will have a look.

We emphasise that our effort will be an official and professional continuation of Thirty Bees, with a core developer on board full time.

    Don't jump ship just yet.

  15. Hi everyone

We know it's now been a while since our first post.

While we'd love to have new news to share, we're still waiting for some important documents to continue the negotiations.
Someone here mentioned that buying a company can sometimes take months. Unfortunately we're seeing that this may be the case here too.
We are eager to pick up the reigns and move TB forward, but will have to ask you all for your continued patience while we sort out all the details of purchasing TB.
We're picking up that it could still take many weeks before this thing has been finalised.

On the plus side, we do have some info to share:

    • The Core Developer has essentially been finalised and has indicated that he is on board (subject to the sale of TB being concluded and other details, of course).
We will reveal who, once everything is sorted. He will be full-time. And you will be more than happy 😉
    • We plan to move TB forward with continued maintenance and improvements and evolution.
Making TB better, by building on its solid foundation and listening to the community. Not ripping it up and starting again.
    • So no plans to change architecture or any crazy Prestashop 1.7 or Symfony ideas.
    • There will be roadmaps, bug fixes, new features, enhancements, support and massive community involvement, feedback and participation.

We look forward to finalising the negotiations and purchase of TB.
We will provide feedback within the next few months. Hopefully sooner.
In the meantime, please keep using and promoting TB. We promise an exciting future for TB ahead.
Thanks for all your support 👍

I found a group of active users in the community who were up to the challenge. thirty bees will be under new control shortly with renewed vigor led by new owners.

    Hi,

Yes this is official. And we now have Moderator status, thanks to @lesley

We had to post without it as it was becoming apparent that more and more people were getting concerned about TB's current status and future.

So we thought we'd let you all know quickly that something is in the works. Even though nothing is finalised as yet. Apologies for any confusion caused by posting without Moderator status.

We will let you know once we have some new information to share, which could be within the next few weeks.
