For Cyprus where I live the amount is 30000€ before a seller from another EU member state has to register for VAT here -

Where you payVAT depends on your sales in that country. If you live in f.ex Bulgaria but sell a lot to Germany you will have to register for VAT there if you come over a certain amount. This amount differs depending on the country. -

In my opinion TB is much more ready than PS 1.6 has ever been. Just check so the modules work. Most do but not all due to the much cleaner code in TB

I will make you do that for the next one ;-) The uppload from supplier comes as a zip which I download and uszip using a cron every Saturday. The import module then pick them there. In the db I have the full URL and the developer explained that the images get resized when called first time

That is not an option in my case. I never have the pictures, I upload them to the web server directly from the supplier

Running the shop in Goögle pagespeed suggest to use GZ compression of the images. Is someone using this? Any difference?

Yes but with so many different sites on the server I will have both options but need to free an ip to be able to have both running as pure web servers on the same machine without chnaging port numbers

I have now upgraded the server and use nginx as reverse proxy in front of Apache. As soon as I have a free ip address I will test to use only nginx But already now I feel like the rendering time has improved

What does Nginx do better than Apache? Seems that you pros prefer that solution

There is nothing that says that a 0 means unlimited. It say Max size of short description and the note say set max characters for the short description
