Country mismatch: Spanish customers select the wrong country (eg Germany) - any fix?

I've noticed a couple of times now that customers from Spain mistakenly select Germany as the country (Germany is where the shop is based). This impacts the shipping price, the rate, and requires a manual correction of the address.

I'm hoping this isn't some shipping fee scam but just a mistake by the customer. Is there any way to prevent this mismatch?

Perhaps the only way to minimise this would be to use some address verification / autocomplete system, at the very least for the postal code and city. Shouldn't be too difficult to implement, I'm assuming. Any thoughts on the solution?

I have removed insertion of default country in the Country field.
All these auto fillers only cause errors in shop, customer should choose the Country himself.

The names of the countries should be translated into all the languages we have in the store so that there are no misunderstandings with customers.
In PS 8 they added a useful option - automatic translation of country names using CLDR. In thirtybees, unfortunately, there is no such thing and you have to translate manually.
