Issues after upgrading from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2
MockoB replied to elund's question in Updating thirty bees
Yes I know @lesley, but the issue was commented couple of times and still no solution. I'm not quite sure but there was github ticket as well about it. Favicons on apple devices don't work as they are supposed to. On my iPhone 5 I see alwayspaw's favicon and on iPad and iPhone 6s+ I don't see it, on the iPad it is "camera" icon on iPhone 6s it is "?". I can upload screenshots if you need. @alwayspaws could tell how it is on mac. That's it, I could help with testing unfortunately my coding skills are zero and that's all I can help with. -

MockoB replied to elund's question in Updating thirty bees
@alwayspaws it's neither performance or functionality issue. But if you ask me it is major issue because that's the way people associate your brand and when I hit the new tab I see question mark or at best "camera" ... it would be different if it was your brand's logo, and it would be definitely easier to find your site among other favorites ... Unfortunately there aren't apple fans among the developers and they doesn't seem to care much for apple users. And I understand it because thirty bees is European product and don't target USA market, where 80% of the ppl use apple devices instead android or pc. As I told you I see your favicon as paw on my iPhone 5, as camera on my iPad 4, and will try it later on my wife's iPhone 6s +. I think it is something connected with compatibility of different apple devices, may be something missed with the favicon standard ... -

@alwayspaws last time I checked it was camera on iPad and paw on iPhone. -
@DavidP thank you for the detailed explanation! That's the answer I needed and I believe others also. @rubben1985 it makes sense for international traffic, and 2,5 sec decrease in loading times is very good achievement!
-
Thanks @lesley one thing less to worry about!

It's not that big and it would be local market not world wide, hosting server will be located in the same country. But the reason I'm asking is because every site speed metrix recommend cdn and theoretically it sounds logical. Needed to know if someone is using it successfully with thirty bees. Because many features in ps doesn't work like advertised, like caching systems for example and I don't want to fight with another dead before was born feature again :)
-
The hosting company offer http2, at least I saw it for their shared service but I believe they do for vps also. Why not use combination of both, everywhere I read (not particularly for ps or tb) everyone recommend the use of cdn? Are there any known issues and troubles with it you know about?
-
May be because you just filled one field you don't have issues with single domain ssl certificate i suppose. But I just saw their pricing !?! Is it reasonable to pay more for cdn than managed vps host per month? Do you have any observations before and after using their services? Is there huge difference between loading times and is your site international, and is there any use of it if you target local market where your hosting server is?
-
I can't even imagine how someone could place such feature there ...
-
Is there anyone using CDN? I just saw the hosting company I am considering are offering free clowdways CDN. I know theoretically it is great solution for speed and fast delivery of static content but I would like to hear someone who actually has experience with it. I saw there is module which is solving issues with CDN and non multi domain SSL certificates. Are there any issues with CDN and single domain certificates? Do you have any suggestions of properly setting clowdways CDN or any other provider which you think is better to choose?

It would be nice feature.

Sure @wakabayashi it's great example your article. I know from my experience that blog articles rank well after time. But my question was why not same article written in the product long description doesn't rank at all? I always do things from customer's perspective, I'm customer before being merchant. Yes it's my first project and I'm planning other stores with tb in future, just need to have some time ...
-
@moy2010 i do exactly that, but you know what? Those ungrateful customers just refuse to link my site, and leave reviews! I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one here experiencing same. And please tell me if I don't receive links and don't try to be more google friendly, how will the customers find my site after all?
-
My site is 4 years old, not very competitive niche. After some optimization and 6 months I was on the first page for most important keywords, now I'm stuck on third place. The most important is that it is behavior I noticed not just with my site and competition. I really think if I make category for every single product it will rank better ... @nickon from that I read about magento (never tried it) it is way ahead tb concerning SEO. Not to mention basic things as snippets, reviews, canonical tags, pagination ... nothing is solved on ps. And I don't think it is solved on tb excluding the default template. So your friend got point but there are many more things which tb is better in I think.
-
Everybody knows content is all. But it seems it is not the case with ps and tb I believe. From my experience with my current ps 1.5 shop it is hard to optimize product pages for search engines. The only thing that google sees is the meta title and description, nothing about long description. I made my short description as rich snippet but what about the description, google doesn't care about it. For my products I have decent unique descriptions, some are more than 1000 words. Submitted manually the pages in webmaster tools etc. My competitors are using other ecommerce platforms and they got 1/10 of what I got and rank way better (and it is not link building). All they got is 20 lines of text per each item and everything is on one single CMS page! For example if I sell vegetables, for every single one I got description on the product page with explanation about the uses of it etc. My competitors have 1/10 of my description for every vegetable, but all descriptions are written on one single CMS page. And that way believe it or not they rank better for all known vegetables... It seems the blog topics are ranking better but it is not like landing on product page after all, you have to count on links within the page to redirect the customers... And if I now decide to convert all my descriptions to blog topics I am pretty sure google will complain about duplicate content... Is there right way to optimize product pages? If someone has success, please share your experience.

It always takes me there but never been able to log in until rename the folder and delete install. But I have to admit that I never tried the automatically generated folder after deleting the install folder, I always rename it.

MockoB replied to lesley's topic in Announcements about thirty bees
@lesley I'm interested how did you understood so soon that someone linked thirtybees page? Or you was told by someone ...? Or you are following the forum and noticed the post? Or there is such SEO tool which could detect new links within minutes? -
I think it is normal behavior both ps and tb. You have to rename that folder to be able to enter it and delete install folder also ...
-
Great, I will implement it in my next shop! One more question, what if I update the store? Do I have to update the code also in the file and if that's the case is there way to avoid changes to be overwritten?
-
Perfect! I wonder why it is not native feature. I sell products which are unique and I was deleting it after every sale. Recently I decided to change just the picture to avoid loosing ranking but it is hard for customers to find them because they have to list all the product pages ... Are you sure it will not cause any troubles with database or other related features? And is it possible to add for the non native TB theme?
-
Does it give you an option to set old products as new? Please show live example for non programmers :)

And your favicon in my favorites list on my iPad is still question mark, which means it doesn't work on apple devices yet. -
migration ps 1.5 > thirtybees friendly urls and seo
MockoB replied to annafjmorris's question in Migrations
If you don't use redirect you wil loose your positions in google! So definitely don't forget to use redirect for every single URL on your site! -
migration ps 1.5 > thirtybees friendly urls and seo
MockoB replied to annafjmorris's question in Migrations
Nemo's module does the same, 301 redirect. Of course considering that thirty bees already has clean urls in the core. @annafjmorris those # numbers when you choose size with the drop down doesn't matter, they are not indexed, and if they accidentally got indexed you can use tool in webmaster tools to exclude them from the search index. -
The regulation is clear enough, if customer asks we should remove his data. Other thing is that we must keep history of the orders, invoices etc. which basically keeps customers' data ... I think the information we should remove if needed is personal information like: gender, age, address, phone number, order history. But aren't we able to that at the moment also ?
