Tutorial: How to migrate from ps 1.6 to thirty bees

Question

Posted

In this thread I am going to help merchants, who want to migrate to thirty bees. For this purpose I have created a video tutorial. I have created a very simple & safe way for a test migration.

I used cpanel & FileZilla in the video, but you can works similair with Plesk. What I show:

  1. Clone your files
  2. Clone your database
  3. Change settings.inc.php
  4. Make the migration

Info: If you want to do the migration on your live shop. You can skip the first part of the video. Just start at 10:43. But I highly recommend to make a test migration before and never forget to make backups! https://youtu.be/LN7KD9W_MY4

Feel free to ask any question in this thread!

Very good and useful tutorial! Thanks! And after watching it, even more I hope that @Traumflug will succeed with his automation of shop cloning :) @wakabayashi do you think it is safe to show all that admin information? I hope it is test shop you plan to remove from the server :) Is the quality of the video so low or it is just me seeing blurry?

Thx. Well it's just a test shop with real data. I have changed mysql password already. I don't think anyone can abuse it.

Shouldn't be that blurry I think. Are you on 1080p?

I play it on my iPad. Just tried to watch it with safari on YouTube website and I can't find the quality option there. But when played in YouTube app there is option to chose 1080 and plays well. It is interesting why in automatic mode it choses much lower resolution.

I'm on 50mb fiber optic internet and constantly watching movies with Kodi on my tv box in 1080p so I doubt it is the reason :)

:thumbsuptone4: for doing such a video! :thumbsuptone4: for showing how to clone a shop and for working on that clone! :thumbsup_tone4: for the module doing the migration so seamlessly!

To those who have a clone already or want to try on a test installation: start at 10:20 in the video.

This is an amazing video and just what I need! I've switched my hosting company and am in the process of re-doing some of my dev sites but hadn't got round to 30bz yet so thank you so much for this!

I am waiting for an upgrade of both the migration module and the main package before I make another try. I never heard any serious explanation after I reported my previous disastrous attempt to migrate.

I am getting increasingly pessimistic about the future of TB. The focus is too much on implementing new ideas and celebrating every little new success. Any bad news is ignored. This reminds me of what is going wrong at Prestashop. To get traction there should be much more focus on solving any little problem that is reported.

I saw your post previously and thought it was solved. Sorry about that. Tomorrow when I am in the office I am going to try a migration using XAMPP, 1.6.1.11 to thirty bees and see if I encounter any issues. If so I push some changes to the repo to fix them.

Its really disheartening to hear some I know is a developer having these issues and at the same time not able to debug them. That is what open source is about, helping the community as a whole with bug fixes and making stable software. We are a small team that is trying to bring a software to a stable version. Not a multi-million dollar company that is ignoring your wishes. We want this to be stable. We have a lot of sweat, blood, tears, and our own money invested in it.

We will get your migration working, I am going to look into it personally and make sure it works. But please, don't group us with other software companies that do not have the merchant's best interest at heart. I think that is unfair and I am sure you do as well.
