roband7 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 @Havouza said in Let's talk about Search!: aiting for mdekker to come back from well earned vacation ;-) What, he´s human, I thought he was a bot! :)
Tomik Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 they mean just a small maintenance check, new oil and refilling some gas maybe cleaning some dust from the fans.
alwayspaws Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 @Havouza Thanks for letting us know! I was worried when we didn't hear from @wakabayashi for several days. @dynambee I didn't know he was on vacay, either. @roband7 @Tomik LOL! Glad he took a vacation because it's going to be his last one until he finishes the new module. Good luck, Michael!
dynambee Posted September 6, 2017 Author Posted September 6, 2017 I've been away from the forums for a bit, my apologies if this has already been covered and I haven't seen it. I'm wondering if there is any update on the Elasticsearch module development?
Guest Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 @dynambee it's only recently started development from what I know so it'll be a few months I would think. It's likely this will be something that's earmarked for 1.1.x
dynambee Posted September 6, 2017 Author Posted September 6, 2017 I would certainly hope it will work with 1.0.x as well, that's the current long term stable release! It would be quite disappointing if the ES module wasn't compatible. :(
Havouza Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 @davidp If that is true, the grounds for the funding were false. So I certainly hope you are wrong!!!!
vzex Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 So the perks will be available after it is completed?
Guest Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I never said it was in 1.1x I said it's likely, it's just my opinion. You've got to give them time to develop it, it's no easy task. Given how complex it is I would have thought it'd be 1.1 because it's a lot of work and I presume it's going to change the fundamental structure of the whole search mechanism. I personally wouldn't want something like that put onto 1.0.x because that's meant to be bug fixes only and no new features.
Havouza Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 If you read the post about it you will see what is said. And 1.1 is far far far away.If it was said from beginning that ES module were for 1.1 it would never be funded, believe me.
Havouza Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 And as I understand it, it will be a module, not a core change. And as module ES search already exist for PS. The TB one would be more premium and combine 2 other modules out there
wakabayashi Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I am quite sure that the module will be compatible for 1.0.x. I can't see any reason, why it shouldn't be. Michael was working on it, but then he was little bit distracted with some personal stuff (non tb related). But now he is coding again :thumbsup_tone1: My tip: while you are wating for ES module, prepare for christmas sales ;) :D
moy2010 Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Developing such a complex module is not easy. As Wakabayashi says, you are better preparing for christmas sales than for the final module. Though a beta version might come soon ;)
dynambee Posted September 6, 2017 Author Posted September 6, 2017 I'm definitely not expecting a finished module or even a beta, just wondering how development is progressing. I think an occasional status update (say, once a month, give or take) isn't too unreasonable a request.
MockoB Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Just received an email, there will be beta soon.
dynambee Posted September 7, 2017 Author Posted September 7, 2017 @mdekker: Welcome back and thank you very much for the update! Glad you took some time off, don't work yourself into burnout.
MockoB Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 @mdekker there is no such thing as really long vacation, they are never long enough :)
vincentdenkspel Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 From your post it looks like @lesley contributed important code. Thank you @lesley
alwayspaws Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 @mdekker Thank you for all this time-consuming difficult work.
DaoKakao Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 One small question: have somebody heard something about SPHINX full-text search engine for MySQL? It already has modules for PS1.6 connection. http://sphinxsearch.com/ As its dev say, it is very fast and has reasonable memory consume.

There are a few drawbacks to Sphinx and there are quite a few extra benefits to Elasticsearch. I covered a bit of this a few months ago in a different thread. Overall right now ES is the best open source search engine, and it is improving the fastest as well.
DaoKakao Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 @dynambee Thanks for information Ian. It will be very useful for me soon :)
