PayPal - which module in 2025.11 ?

I never understood which module to use with Thirtybees. So, I am asking which one to use.

I am no techie but it may be that php version I am running does matter. Well, I am still on V7.x.

In the prestashop addon shop I found: Module PrestaShop Checkout built with PayPal - PrestaShop Addons 

That sounds promising, is for PS 1.6.1 that should do for TB latest version but I do not know!

At least that module is constantly improving or in active development. 

So, since Thirtybees is for selling stuff I need proper payment modules. Mine are running but I think I did not update them in three years because there were no updates (PayPal module from Thirtybees addon store V5.6.2  and same for damn old Mollie V3.5.5 module).

I use these modules for payment collection and both work fine. I've tested other paypal modules and even the paypal checkout and do not care for the front or back office experiences they provide.

That is nice to hear. Your PayPal module is newer than mine and also nice that Stripe works. Since I prefer companies in Europe, as far as I understand it, I opted for Mollie instead of Stripe. Well, the Mollie module is damn old but still runs. But is it safe, who knows? 

Anyway, I want to understand why Thirtybees offers own version of PayPal for example. Why? Would it be better to rely on the official version that presta addon store lists? That one is updated on a monthly basis. If that is good, I do not know either

Modules on Prestashop add-ons have new versions every few moments because these modules contain millions of bugs and are constantly being fixed.

I believe the Paypal module on prestashop is a full checkout module. Not just a payment collection. It replaces your entire checkout page with their service. I think it will still work, but I tested it and do not wish to have a full Paypal driven checkout.

So, you can only have one full checkout 'module' in your shop? If I use that one from PayPal I couldn't use Mollie or invoice anymore?

Sorry, but that is all so confusing and it shouldn't be like that.

It seems like the PS Checkout module will not work correctly anymore, because the version for PS 1.6.1 relies on PHP 7 and if you use an updated version of ThirtyBees with PHP 8 there are incompatibilites with the Symfony framework. At least I couldn't add products to the cart anymore when testing and the debug mode showed a lot of error messages regarding this.

So what actually is the current best Paypal Module for ThirtyBees?

Could you tell me more about whether there are any payment methods other than PayPal and Mollie that you have tested on Thirtybees?

We are still using the existing PayPal module with thirtybees 1.6 on PHP 8.1, and without any problems!

Since yesterday/today, there has been a notification regarding an update for the PayPal module. When you update it, you get a message stating that it is outdated/deprecated.

Okay team @Acer, it’s time for more information. PayPal is extremely widespread and used by practically every merchant and customer alike. How do we proceed?

I am seeing this same message. What does it mean? @datakick, perhaps you can answer since the latest commit was yours I see.

Hi all

We've been at work behind the scenes to bring you a new release of TB. An official announcement should be made within the next week or so, with all the details etc.
This update brings a new, official TB version of the PayPal module (using the latest PayPal APIs etc) - certified by PayPal. 
I've let the guys know about the message you've been getting - as far as I understand, the update should bring your module up-to-date with the latest version. We will keep you posted.
