    So we're at an impasse still.

    Now, how do we take some action and fix this? Given what everybody knows?
    No, not everybody is great at everything, so we all have our strengths and weaknesses.
    Some are better at the Dev side of things, others better at Leadership / Running the show.

    But maybe if we work together and somehow utilize our collective strengths, we can save this project and kick some proper PS ass?
    In terms of money, 'the TB company', marketing, direction of the project and leadership?

    From my side what I can offer for free with my actual more than full time occupation is:

    - suscriptions to graphic and media resources (useful to make a design changes)

    - one of our designers to improve web design (part time starting june-july)

    - An small study of the most important marketing problems I see (a to do list of the most basics that would improve a lot the branding image with reasonable effort)

    - more in the future but I do not want to make a compromise now

    Right. It's why I have thrown in the 50$/month Freemium model. In my post, I list everyone, who is ready to commit such an amount. Right now we are only 2 persons. Ofc the concept needs to be done much clearer, but if we can not even reach 10 people who say: "oh yeah thats in my budget". Then I don't even beginn to think deeper about it.

    add me to the list. If the small adjustments are included in the freemium (as johnny does with his template) that is peace of mind for small problems. I would highly recommend to join this options to anyone that it is doubting

    I am generally very busy so I can't help to much in time. But my company is running on TB and I have quite some employees running around. I mean like many others it is serious business. We even work on a connector for Odoo and I can tell you this is a huge investment. I would be happy to tip in a monthly fee. @wakabayashi As a user for many years I surely know what is definitely needed and not.

    What about making a association of it?

    We also could work with crowdsourcing major improvements.

    We just need a mastermind what has time and devotion to run it,  and a steady financial income.

    we too are integrating Odoo. Big investment and a lot of troubles. Maybe we can share some integrations? If you are interested PM me.

    Lesley isn't forthcoming with any data here on financials , downloads, installs, sites, modules any metrics whatsoever.

    He mentioned earlier that he was up for whatever worked, but isn't providing any metrics so we see what this company is actually achieving and so we can see what can be done.

    I should think another lesson from this is to make a company in which there is more than one stakeholder and key contributors have a stakeholding.

    Its not cool to have only one person running a large scale business system like this.

    @Mark honestly what you are asking here (financials...wtf) is not standard to be discussed in public. If I were Lesley I would not provide it either because it is internal information. You want something like that, you ask by private and it is up to him. I have been critic with not appearing but answering questions, being present and having a plan is all "we have right to ask" for the people in command of TB. No more

    I am unsure where you recent hostility against me or thirty bees has come from.

    @lesley It is more frustration than hostility. Everyone should be (I am) really grateful to you, but you also have to be aware that once they jump with you in a boat (in this case their digital business ecommerce platform), they request attention if things are not following a clear path, at least a minimum.

    From the start of this company / project those have been the values. I might not be capable of piloting the company or project much longer, but I am not going to turn it over to someone that will exploit the community. These people have been awesome to me and thirty bees over the last several years and I am trying my best to leave them in capable hands with my integrity intact.

    Agree with you at 100%. I saw the messages that mark said in pm to you, and if that is all, his tone and attitude is not good at all. But also the person that leads the company should find a way to generate income. And it is almost imposible that everyone will be agree (free is always better).

    Proposed Solution

    • Low Renewable Once-off fee for Entry (renews every year). Between $2 / $5 per year.
    • All existing members pay access fee & get nice 'verified supporter' badge or whatever
    • Aggressive marketing campaign to attract new users - actively take on Presta
    • More users approach galvanizes TB to grow and actively seek out new users (without exploiting them)
    • = Money for developers + new features
    • = Free things are still free essentially
    • = Sustainable growth with "Best of Both" Opensource and Monetizing's Benefits and none of their weaknesses
    • = Renewable yearly subscription 'milks' without overdoing it and works towards the sustainable part

    @Theo 2-5$ is almost nothing for any business, even yearly. You said, 1 million users.... wtf hahaha good luck to get that!! even with an agressive marketing campaign... Do you know how much cost ads? in eCommerce a product that cost 100$ have usually a minimum cost of conversion of 15-20$ (well optimized). B2B conversion is much difficult. With that cost, only to cover marketing you need like a few years to pay THE ACQUISITION, not talking about maintaining the system and improving it. I understand you are in a poor country but TB need to pay the salary of the developers. Sorry if I sound hard, but it is just reality. But I also would like to say there are different way to at least allow "poor country" people to enjoy it, but price can not be linked to that

    My personal 2 propositions (I have different ideas)

    The first: freemium.

    Free users have access to the software and community forums (we solve that poor country people can enjoy it), but not to official developers.

    Premium services under suscription could include:

    - bug (TB related) preferential resolution by the staff.

    - specific premium modules

    - I would add a very powerful thing, small customization services like Johnny from Panda does (and I am very glad to renew my support even if it is only the template): he defines small customization like works that requires less than 30 min of his attention. If you have active support he helps you. When help is too much he propose customization services (and usually I paid them too because they are "affordable").

    Of course there would be other income sources like ads, marketplace (how it is now, I imagine it sells almost nothing),...

    The second: even If I am not agree with Mark way of telling things, I think it is a good idea to pay a monthly fee depending on business income. "Easy" to set up with a fee per sale. (if you are starting you pays almost nothing, if you are successful, you return to the platform its effort). This is the reason why so many platforms with this model works: people risk nothing to use it, and everyone is happy to know that the only pay if they are earning money.

    I haven't seen the financials but I don't think there is enough money to give salary to a fulltime developer. We have been like ~25 patreons giving from $5 to $50 I think. I don't even think everyone in this forum thread are contributors.

    And I also don't think it's enough with one, it must be devoted team to make this work.

    I will answer for myself. For example I was backer in Patreon for about 2 years (maybe less, not sure) but looking at the path that took the direction with no direction at all (not talking about coding) I did not activated my contributions in the new system.

    Yet, I think Patreon is not the solution from my perspective and I already expressed that in private to a few people. Coding is great here. The most basic Management and marketing is the pending thing since always.

  8. @datakick I was going to write you in private but I think this community deserves to give their opinion but also to know what others think too.

    I honestly think that you (and the rest of the actual actives contributors), should "take the the helm" and create the new staff.

    Without all of you (and specially you in the last months) there is not TB  because community is great but we need someone more involved than standard merchants. Community growth around a solid core.

    I can understand Lesley is ill and we hope he will recover soon, but it is also true that we are in a professional environment and any project needs a leader. Why not you? You have been the leader anyway this last period. It can be at TB or a TB fork if necessary.

    I am not developer, but I am quite decent in management and marketing (that was always the biggest problem for TB growth). I would gladly give my inputs (there are so many easy things to fix in the communication and branding...), even collaborate with designers from my team for free. Not talking about intensive work, but more that testimonial, for sure. If you think about the possibility, I think could be an inflexion point in TB history

  9. a person from UX told me that would be interesting to delete the email field in "create an account" div (authentication-login.tpl) and only show that in the next step (anyway it is shown there too) because it makes easier not to introduce the email until later once the address has been completed too.

    Do you know how to delete that email field?

    image.thumb.png.1b19658366d129e96a387db99e546a50.png

    To hide the email field is easy for a novice like me (i could hide it or just delete the section, but the button to continue "create account" needs the field to be complete it to continue and show next screen.

    Do you know hot to make that TB allow no to introduce an email and even like that going to next screen when doing click? (in the next screen of course, email field should be mandatory, no problem with that)

    Yes.

    This is possible to change, copy this into order-steps.tpl

    <style>
    .nav-justified > .not-completed, .active > a {
        cursor: default;
        pointer-events: none;
    }
    </style>

    That way on Active step and on Not-Completed steps, the pointer stays default, and no empty javascript link is shown.

    I just tried and maybe because my template is not the community I modified a little the code to make it work in my case:

    .steps_3 .not-completed, .active > a {
        cursor: default;
        pointer-events: none;
    }

  11. I never activated anymore the FPC but this topic make me wondering if there is at least a "safe" setting. I mean, the options that seems to work well, and ignoring those with "potential" problems. Maybe we can gain some extra points in speed without risking.... or maybe there is not such safe options?

  12. Something I noticed is that putting the mouse cursor in next step indicator it changes to a "hand icon" but it does not allow to click because the previous step is not completed. It is posible however to click only to a previous step, but the hand icon is always the same, being possible to click or not

    Do you think is is possible to set that the han only appear when is actually possible to click? (to go back) Just to improve UX.

  13. I was going to translate a module (selecting my template in the menu) and I did it. After that, I was going to translate it into a second language. Then, I saw it was already translated (should not be in theme section because I just installed) but the language was not correct and it was filled with the same translation than I just did for my other language… I went to the FTP, and there was not other file that the first language I translated…. So that means it is taken other language when it des not find its own in theme/module/translation

    BUT: this was not being applied to frontoffice, only backoffice. But as soon as you save in backoffice it will be shown in the front office too because we would be just creating it.

    This is very uncomfortable because it means you can not use the backoffice to translate because it will safe all the section with a wrong language except with what you just modified (one or two phrases from the whole section). To translate it, I had to change the file name of the first language so it can not be recognized, then translate the second language, and then change the file to its original name.

    What is stranger is that this did NOT happen when I translated the second (with the first deactivated) and I tried to translate a third language so I ASSUME it only affects to the default language (or the employee backoffice default)

  14. @toplakd i have compared the order-payment-advanced.tpl with the original and it seems that the modifications for this files are wrong in the previous explanation, at least in my case. I did not find any step but there was more code. Just in case is a mistyping 🙂

    By the way I tried your modifications with success!! Thanks a lot!!

    For anyone using PANDA I attach my modified files. I recommend to check it before because I am not a developer but it seems to work fine for me. The only thing I did not try it was to use it with EU compliance module activated because I do not use it yet. I hope it helps!

    3 steps checkout for panda template and TB.rar
